What is Pharmacogenomics?

Pharmacogenomics (sometimes called pharmacogenetics) is a field of research that studies a person's genes and how they affect their response to medications. The value of pharmacogenomics is to guide prescribers and pharmacists in selecting the drugs and doses best suited for each person.

A pharmacogenomic test is only one part of the holistic service Apothecary of Morden provides to their patients.

Apothecary of Morden is here to ensure that you are provided with the best medication for YOU!

Here is what a typical 3 Stage Patient Journey entails:

Stage 1: Collect Sample

  • Attend an in-house or virtual appointment with our Pharmacist for a brief discussion

  • Complete consent documents electronically

  • DNA sample is collected via salvia

  • Sample is sent for processing

Stage 2: Genetic Test and Pharmacist Interpretation

  • The Lab does a genetic analysis to determine your unique genetic makeup

  • Your Genetic Profile is uploaded to interactive site

  • Our Pharmacist reviews and interprets your Genetic Profile

  • Our Pharmacist prepares a recommendation

  • They reach out to you and your prescriber to discuss their recommendations

Stage 3: Medication Changes

  • Your Prescriber changes your prescription

  • As you begin with your new medication, our Pharmacist will guide you throughout the entire process (i.e. how to taper and titrate your medication, manage side effects, etc.)

  • Our Pharmacist will reach out to you even months after you've changed your prescription to make sure your medication is working

  • Our Pharmacist is always available to you and your prescriber!
